Dermal Fillers (Hyaluronic Acid)

Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal Fillers? Dermal filler is a term which refers to a wide variety of different things, many of which are used to fill out lines and reshape the face. Injected into wrinkles or used to enhance lips, hyaluronic acid restores volume for a healthier, fuller, more youthful look.

Dermal fillers can be used to improve:

  • Deep smile lines.
  • Crows’ feet at the corner of the eyes.
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows.
  • Worry lines.
  • Smoker’s lines.
  • The definition of the lip border.
  • Many other marks and lines.

How It Works

The quality of our skin decreases with age and impairs its’ ability to bind water, leading to dull skin. Hyaluronic acid, a natural substance in the skin plays an important part in this process. By using a slightly stabilised form of hyaluronic acid and therefore slowing the speed at which it degrades in the body, water can be retained over a longer period. This increased ability to bind and hold water increases elasticity and fullness of the skin. While not permanent, hyaluronic acid is long-lasting and may be easily maintained with occasional follow-up injections.

What to expect from a Dermal Filler Treatment

Whether you’re looking to revitalise your skin, smooth away wrinkles or enhance your facial features, such as your cheeks or lips – there is a treatment designed to improve your looks and make you feel more youthful. The results of a hyaluronic acid treatment can be seen instantly – and as the treatment is non-surgical, with minimal downtime, you can get on with living life to the full.

Dermal Fillers

Treatment with hyaluronic acid usually takes less than thirty minutes. For wrinkle treatments, no anaesthetic is required, although it can be arranged at your request. Lip enhancement is generally performed under local anaesthetic.

Results are immediate, and reactions to treatment are mild. Common injection-related reactions include swelling, redness, pain, itching, discolouration and tenderness of the implant site. These typically resolve within a day or two after injections into the skin and within one week after injection into the lips.
