Augmentation Mammoplasty (Breast Enlargement)

Breast augmentation, also known as breast enlargement or augmentation mammaplasty, increases breast volume and improves shape, creating better balance with the rest of the body. Many women choose this procedure to enhance their appearance or restore volume lost over time.
Breast shape and size change for many reasons. Genetics, weight fluctuation, pregnancy, breastfeeding and ageing can all affect breast volume and contour. Breast augmentation focuses on enhancing proportion rather than achieving a specific size, helping the breasts sit more naturally with your frame.
Ms Tzafetta approaches breast augmentation with careful planning and restraint. The goal is a result that feels right for your body and lifestyle, rather than one that looks artificial or exaggerated.
When breast augmentation may help
You may consider breast augmentation if you feel concerned about:
- naturally small breast size
- loss of breast volume following pregnancy or weight change
- lack of fullness or projection
- asymmetry between the breasts
- breasts that no longer suit your body shape
A considered approach to breast enlargement
Breast augmentation involves placing implants to increase volume and improve shape. Because breast anatomy varies widely, successful surgery depends on individual assessment rather than a standard approach.
Ms Tzafetta considers chest width, breast tissue, skin quality, nipple position and body proportions when planning surgery. Her recommendations focus on long-term balance, comfort and how results will age over time.
Breast implants
Modern breast augmentation uses either silicone gel implants or saline-filled implants.
Silicone gel implants contain cohesive silicone gel that closely mimics the feel of natural breast tissue. They are the most commonly chosen option and provide a soft, natural contour.
Saline implants contain sterile saltwater and allow size adjustment during surgery. Ms Tzafetta will explain when this option may be appropriate.
Implants also vary by shape and projection. Options include round or anatomical (teardrop-shaped) implants, with different profiles to suit your frame. Implant surface type and placement also influence final appearance.
Ms Tzafetta will guide you through these choices during consultation, focusing on what suits your anatomy and goals.
Breast augmentation surgery
Breast augmentation usually takes place under general anaesthesia and typically lasts 1 to 2 hours.
Ms Tzafetta places implants either behind the breast tissue or beneath the pectoral muscle, depending on anatomy and desired outcome. She selects incision sites carefully to minimise visible scarring. Common locations include:
- within the natural crease beneath the breast
- around the lower edge of the nipple
- within the armpit in selected cases
Ms Tzafetta will explain which options suit you and why, as implant type and anatomy influence incision choice.
Some women may benefit from combining breast augmentation with a breast uplift when skin laxity contributes to drooping. Ms Tzafetta will discuss this openly during the consultation.

Recovery and expectations
Recovery varies depending on implant placement and surgical technique. Most women experience swelling, tightness and discomfort in the first one to two weeks, which gradually improves. Many feel comfortable returning to desk-based work within 1 to 2 weeks, depending on their comfort and confidence.
Physical jobs and heavy lifting usually require 3 to 4 weeks before returning. Exercise resumes gradually, with upper-body activity typically restricted for 4 to 6 weeks.
Ms Tzafetta will provide personalised recovery guidance and advise on when it is safe to return to work, driving, and exercise.
Breast shape continues to soften and settle over several months as tissues adapt to the implants.
Understanding limitations
Breast augmentation enhances volume and shape but does not stop natural ageing or prevent future changes related to weight, pregnancy or time.
Ms Tzafetta will clearly discuss the limitations so expectations remain realistic.

Under the care of Ms Tzafetta, breast augmentation surgery centres on anatomical accuracy, proportion and long-term outcome quality. Her background in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery supports careful planning and results that look natural in both clothing and everyday life.
Breast Augmentation FAQs
How long does breast augmentation surgery take?
Surgery usually takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on the implant type and placement. Ms Tzafetta will explain the expected duration during the consultation.
Will I have visible scars?
Ms Tzafetta places incisions carefully to keep scars as discreet as possible. Scar appearance depends on healing, skin type and incision choice, which she will discuss with you in advance.
How long does recovery take?
Most women return to desk-based work within 1 to 2 weeks. Swelling and tightness resolve gradually, and full exercise usually resumes after 4 to 6 weeks.
Will my breasts look natural?
Breast augmentation aims to create natural proportion rather than an artificial look. Implant choice and placement are key, and Ms Tzafetta will guide you through these decisions.
Is breast augmentation painful?
Most women describe recovery as uncomfortable rather than painful. Tightness and pressure are common early on and improve steadily. Pain relief medication helps manage discomfort.
Can breast augmentation affect breastfeeding?
Many women breastfeed successfully after breast augmentation, but this depends on anatomy and surgical technique. Ms Tzafetta will discuss this in relation to your individual plans.
How long do breast implants last?
Breast implants do not have a fixed lifespan. Many last for many years without issue, but replacement may become necessary over time. Ms Tzafetta will explain long-term monitoring and follow-up.
Who performs breast augmentation surgery?
Kalliroi Tzafetta performs breast augmentation with a focus on proportion, safety and long-term results.
When should I consider breast augmentation?
You may consider breast augmentation if breast size or shape affects your confidence or clothing choices. Surgery works best when decisions feel calm and well-informed. A consultation with Ms Tzafetta can help clarify whether breast augmentation suits your goals.

Absolutely Fabulous!!!
I honestly could not be happier with my surgery results!!! I chose to have Breast augmentation (under muscle) AND rhinoplasty. I was size AA before and had 350cc implants making me a full C cup. My surgeon Ms Tzafetta was absolutely amazing and just so lovely from the start and throughout every step of my journey. She listened to every detail of my wish and made it come true and for that I am so happy and thankful! I honestly could not fault any of my experience! My anesthetist was great, very kind guy who made me smile a lot and made feel comfortable before going under. The nurses were angels, all of them were so kind and so lovely! I was so surprised at how little to no pain I was In throughout my whole experience. I had two weeks off from work which was enough time for the bruising to go. (With the help of Arnica) Thank you so so much Ms Tzafetta, I can’t tell you enough how happy I am with my results and that chose you to be my surgeon!
highly recommend
Mrs Tzafetta is a delight. I have had two operations both cosmetic both by Mrs Tzafetta. The first being relay of nail beds on my feet due to a horse riding accident. But the main one being breast augmentation, from the minute I decided I wanted to have this done everything was very smooth and calm and made the entire process easy! I had images of what I wanted but Mrs Tzafetta was very clear in what I wanted and what was possible would be different. I went from a A/B cup to a DD/E having the operation on top of the muscle which was very important to me to reduce the recovery time due to my competing with the horses. I had this back in March 2010 and would do the operation again today tomorrow and whenever. The experience was very good and I honestly thought I would be in much more pain and after care would be difficult it really wasn’t. In fact I thought something may be wrong because it was all too easy. I recently went back to have them checked 7 years later and as the first time I came in Mrs Tzafetta was just as pleasant and shows true care for her patients. I couldn’t recommend her more to anyone. Thank you x
